Believing In God

In John 14:1, Jesus says something that would have been considered blasphemous had the Jews heard it. “You believe in God, believe also in me (Jesus Christ). We know that many put their faith in several things but then, these things can fail and does fail. It can even be a curse to put your faith in anything other than God.

We believe in many things, and that is ok. Faith and believe can be used interchangeably but then these are not the same. To believe is to accept what is said by someone as true but faith is putting your trust or confidence in someone or something. In Christianity, belief/believing is a step of accessing one’s faith (rf. Romans 10:10-11, 17).

So, how do we believe God? Believing God is by accepting all that He says and for us Christians, it is by following the words/teachings of His Son Jesus Christ. The whole purpose of Christianity, as labelled in John 14:1-4 is to have a place for ourselves in heaven, God’s abode. The reason why we do all that we do is so that we will have a chance/place in heaven.

When Jesus was speaking of the way which the disciples knew so very well, he was speaking of himself because he is the Way. By following him, that is, denying ourselves and picking up our crosses, we will be crowned and exalted as he was and be where he is. Jesus didn’t just come to give us eternal life, he came to make us like himself- children of God (John 1:12).

This is what believing in God can do for you through Christ. I cannot speak of other religions because they are and can be misleading. Following reports of servants of God is welcomed but why continue when the Son of God came and gave His report? What’s the sense of it even? This is what makes Christianity better than any other religion- the Son of God Himself came and told us all about – God – the Father.

If you don’t believe in God or have lost your faith because of one thing or another, I pray God comes your way supernaturally so your faith can be affirmed in Him. God’s not dead; He’s certainly alive and well, still working in the earth. If there’s anything to put your faith in, it certainly should be God Almighty and none other. God bless you.
